Johnson left red faced after practice swing gaffe

The extraordinary incident became even more freaky once the ball had richocheted off the tee marker and come to rest only a couple of metres away, still on the teeing ground.

Johnson was standing on the 13 tee at even par for the day after a bogey on 12, when he took a practice swing with his driver, and accidentally made contact with his ball that was on the tee.

Johnson accidentally struck the ball on the 13th tee while going through his pre-shot routine during the second round of the Masters.

Then, after a beat, he looked over to his fellow players and caddies and asked, "What happens there?"

The putt that sealed Tiger Woods' Masters win
Tennis giant Serena Williams led the tributes, saying she was "literally in tears" watching his comeback performance. One fan joyously replied to the video, " Tiger Woods FINALLY EMBRACING HIS SON AFTER A MASTERS WIN".

"Okay, there's a first for everything there boys", Johnson said, relieved. I mean, really shanked it.

There isn't a Saturday or Sunday golfer in Ireland that hasn't done what Zach Johnson has just managed at The Masters this afternoon. Under USGA rules, Johnson was allowed to re-tee without penalty because it was not intentional.

The 43-year old was not assessed a penalty and the shot did not count as a stroke as Johnson had no intention to hit the ball.

Further, if anyone doubted the intent of his swing, his immediate exclamation of "Oh s--!" made it pretty clear that it was an accident.

You guessed it, four shots and 510 yards later, Johnson sunk a birdie putt to take him to within one of level par.
