MySpace has lost 12 years worth of music

A spokesperson for MySpace says that pretty much anything on the site that is more than three years old - which surely has to be 99 per cent of its content - is at risk of having been binned during a recent server switcheroo operation.

In February 2018, a Myspace support rep told a user, "There is an issue with all songs/videos uploaded over 3 years ago", according to a transcript of the support email posted on Reddit at the time. "We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest that you retain your back up copies", the company said in a statement.

MySpace was founded in August 2003 by a number of former staff of Friendster.

The server migration snafu didn't happen recently, but the company was finally forced to admit it publicly.

ONETIME SOCIAL NETWORKING PIONEER MySpace has fessed up to losing all the music its users uploaded between 2003 and 2015.

While the site may no longer have the draw it once did in the now crowded social media space, many users still depended on it as an archive for the music they loved in its heyday. After complaining to the company, users received a vague answer about "issues" needing to be "fixed" with digital uploads completed more than three years prior.

Messi applauded by Betis fans after hat trick - 'I'm really grateful'
Messi sent his strike around the wall and into the top corner of the net, leaving Lopez little chance. Valverde said that showed the standing Messi - who also hit the post late on - has in the game.

"Until this is resolved the option to download is not available".

This corrupted data represents a significant loss for music history: As Andy Baio, the first chief technical officer of Kickstarter, noted, "MySpace was the Bandcamp and Soundcloud of its day".

Throughout the 12-year period, over 50 million songs from 14 million artists were uploaded to MySpace, and now they have disappeared, due to problems encountered during a server migration.

In 2006 MySpace was the most visited Internet site in the U.S, and helped launch the careers of music stars such as Lily Allen, the Arctic Monkeys and Kate Nash.

But that might have been erased, along with some 50 million songs. Instead, it sold MySpace for $35 million in 2011.
