How A Manchester City Old Boy Almost Derailed Pep Guardiola's Quadruple Bid

After City's shock exit to League One Wigan Athletic in last season's FA Cup, Guardiola's side were facing another humbling at lower league opponents after Matt Grimes penalty and a brilliant strike from ex-Academy player Bersant Celina.

Goals from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero send City into the semi-final round ahead of the global break.

Sergio Aguero swooped late to edge an FA Cup thriller at Swansea City in Manchester City's favour on Saturday.

The visitors upped the ante after the break and pulled one back through Bernardo Silva, before an Aguero penalty went in off goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

City had levelled in contentious circumstances too when Cameron Carter-Vickers was judged to have tripped replacement Raheem Sterling in the area and Aguero's penalty hit the post before rebounding in off Nordfeldt for an own goal.

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus celebrate with manager Pep Guardiola after the match against Swansea City. "I know I'll be a failure if I don't win all the titles, I'm sorry", the City boss quipped.

It is the worst attack of its kind in the country's history and was dubbed its "darkest day" by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern . Condemning the terror strike, Ardern had described it as a "terror attack" and said it "appears to have been well planned".

"They ask all the clubs about the VAR and all around Europe, the VAR is there and here it's not".

Ironically Swansea had access to the system in the quarter-finals past year - while still in the Premier League.

United were under increasing pressure in the second half as Wolves continued probing, with Raul Jimenez's header pushed over the top of the crossbar by Romero on 55 minutes.

"But it does not make it any easier when Aguero and Sterling come on, it makes it more hard and in the end we couldn't hold out".

"You need these kinds of situations to go through, because there are a lot of games and different competitions every three days. It's not nice but thankfully nothing happened this time".

Guardiola said: "You have to say congratulations to Swansea, it was incredible".
