Huawei has developed own operating system for smartphones and PCs

We have prepared our own operating system, if it turns out we can no longer use these systems, we will be ready and have our plan B.

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has confirmed that it has developed its own proprietary operating systems (OS) and is ready to implement those in case its legal battle with the U.S. leads to a ban on the export of US-made products and services such as Android and Windows. And in response to that Huawei hit back at US Government by calling the ban "unconstitutional".

Operating system might not be the only thing that the company must have a "plan B" for.

There is also the matter of processors for its laptops, as its Matebooks are powered by the US-made Intel processors.

Huawei began building the OS in 2012, after seeing the writing on the wall when the USA banned Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE from using American products and services.

According to Yu, Huawei would prefer working with Google and Microsoft but could launch its own proprietary operating system if the situation worsens.

ZTE was found to have violated a previous settlement for violating United States trade sanctions against Iran and barred from dealing with USA companies. In 2016, reports of a Huawei OS being in development surface again, this time as a precaution in case its relationship with Google goes bad.

Huawei has been using US-made operating systems on its devices since several years.

"Android and Windows will always remain our first choices", the source added.

Trade secret thefts, violations of economic sanctions, unethical business dealings with Iran through unofficial subsidiary are some of the charges that have been applied by the USA governments against Huawei. Many users will have their own favourite apps within the Android ecosystem, which developers say may be the issue in convincing them to jump onto a new platform.
