Boeing Has Grounded All Boeing 737 Max Planes Worldwide Over Safety Fears

Investigators examining the flight data of the doomed plane found significant similarities between it and that of the fatal Lion Air crash in Indonesia in October.

In total, there were at least 11 reports about the Boeing 737 MAX 8 logged on the Aviation Safety Reporting System between April 2018 and December 2018.

Donald Trump followed regulators around the world in grounding Boeing's 737 Max fleet on Wednesday. "The investigation team will decide where", the spokesman told Reuters.

Mr GebreMariam said all employees were given new training after the Lion Air disaster.

The flight data and cockpit voice recorders were recovered from the wreckage of the Ethiopian jet.

Ethiopian investigators have now sent the black boxes to Paris to be analyzed - almost three days after they were recovered from the crash site.

"There is no capacity here so the black box will be sent elsewhere for analysis".

The information that black boxes contain helps explain 90 percent of all crashes, according to aviation experts.

More than 660 witness statements were taken and investigators gathered photos as well as video and audio evidence. One of the injured died months later from an inoperable tumour and some consider him the 14th fatality.

Dan Elwell, acting administrator at the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), said on Wednesday: "It became clear to all parties that the track of the Ethiopian Airlines [flight] was very close and behaved very similarly to the Lion Air flight". Aviation experts say other technical issues or human error can not be discounted.

Countries that have grounded their 737 Max 8 fleets include India, Canada, China, Singapore and Indonesia; the European Union has also grounded the aircraft. Norwegian Airlines and United Airlines used the plane regularly, but only once or twice a week.

Trump told reporters the "safety of the American people and all peoples is our paramount concern".

"We view the risk as less about near-term expenses, but the full year 737 delivery estimates for Boeing could be impacted", Herbert said in a research note. In a March 13 statement, Boeing said it respected the FAA's latest decision. ANA plans to purchase 30 of the 737 Max 8 planes from 2021.

The accounts of the recent crashes were echoed in concerns registered by United States pilots on how the MAX 8 behaves.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau said Wednesday's decision was made following a review of evidence about the aircraft.

The Boeing 737 Max 8 that crashed in Ethiopia on Sunday killing 157 people requested permission to return to Addis Ababa airport three minutes after takeoff as it accelerated to abnormal speed, the New York Times reported.

Since the jets were grounded, North American carriers have been wrestling with customer calls and flight cancellations.
