Trump wades into Melania ‘body double’ conspiracy theory

The first lady's communications director Stephanie Grisham rebuked hosts of The View television show for using internet conspiracy theories to ridicule the President and First Lady's appearance during the couple's trip to visit tornado victims.

Days later, Trump leapt on the story, which is an outlier even by the feverish standards of the Washington rumor mill.

Fox News's "Fox & Friends" show slammed ABC's "The View" for a resurfacing conspiracy theory that Melania Trump has a body double.

Trump tweeted Wednesday decrying a fourth estate which, he argues, is "getting more deranged with time!". "You mean there are two women who have to pretend they're listening to (President Trump)?".

He shared: " I just received the most wonderful news tonight that I just had to share with everyone ". She then made a decision to help him out in an "unbelievable" way.

However, co-host Abby Huntsman did object to the segment at one point saying, "I think Melania's a lovely woman", and that she didn't like spending time on the topic.

This theory/meme/genuine mystery was brought into the limelight once again this week, as one journalist went as far as to say that it was "100% not Melania Trump" who Trump could be seen holding hands with.

In fact, the 5-foot-11 first lady had ditched her customary stilettos for sneakers to walk around the rough terrain with the 6-foot-3 Trump. "Look how short she looks". Huntsman asked. When Navarro said she thought it did, Huntsman said "I don't think so".

What's unclear in the president's tweet is what he meant by the media photoshopping images of the First Lady. "I watched the president and first lady hug, listen to and comfort people who had lost everything - and the "ladies" of "The View" instead chose to laugh and joke about a body-double conspiracy".
