Sephora cuts ties with TV star's daughter after college cheating scam

It also sparked an online discussion about what many see as a college admissions system that favors the wealthy.

"[They] agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the [University of Southern California (USC)] crew team-despite the fact that they did not participate in crew-thereby facilitating their admission to USC", the court documents said.

It is claimed that the bribes of up to $500,000 were paid by her mother, famous actress Lori Loughlin (best known for her role in sitcom Full House), to get Olivia and her sister, Isabella, into USC on a rowing team scholarship.

"I don't know how much of school I'm going to attend", she said in a YouTube video posted on August 14, 2018, the day she started at USC.

The same week she posted that video, she put up an apology response.

Olivia Jade also said she felt "really really bad" about the comments, but she still expressed in the video that attending college wasn't really her dream.

"Will not affiliate with negative cheaters; will toss all my current Sephora; remove this affiliation with Olivia jade before I purchase more", wrote one commenter.

Facebook faces criminal investigation over controversial data sharing deals
The company has been juggling a number of scandals and investigations since the Cambridge Analytica revelations almost a year ago. The Times' report was released on Wednesday evening, while Facebook was dealing with a major outage.

"After careful review of recent developments, we have made the decision to end the Sephora Collection partnership with Olivia Jade, effective immediately", a Sephora spokeswoman said in a statement. Her last pic on IG was shared in February and her last YouTube video went up just days before the scam was revealed! "I think they did fine, ' Olivia said on the Zach Sang Show, before joking that her parents were 'hypocrites". "Aaaand you guys haven't cut ties with her yet because??" one consumer asked, while another suggested, "I will not spend another dime at Sephora until they drop this entitled, toxic idiot".

We've learned 19-year-old Olivia was on Rick Caruso's yacht in the Bahamas. It's been a few weeks since I moved into my dorm and I absolutely love it. "And they just have no idea that they didn't even get the score that they thought they got".

The bribes allegedly came through Singer's admissions consulting company, Edge College & Career Network.

Many on Twitter were quick to join Smith, saying affirmative action for disadvantaged groups of students gets unfairly criticized. She caught heat for talking on her channel about how she doesn't really want to do any school work while she's there. In a statement Tuesday, USC said it fired two of the employees named in the scandal and said it is cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation.

Gordon Caplan, who prosecutors said paid $US75,000 previous year to have some of his daughter's wrong answers corrected on a college entrance exam, was placed on leave from his post as co-chairman of the global law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher, the company said on Wednesday.

Actress Lori Loughlin (L) appears in this court sketch at a hearing for a racketeering case involving the allegedly fraudulent admission of children to elite universities, at the federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, Calif., on March 13, 2019.
