Jussie Smollett Attends Hearing Ahead of Disorderly Conduct Court Case

But in a press conference following Smollett's arrest, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department Eddie T. Johnson claimed that the actor staged his alleged attack to promote his career, and because he was "dissatisfied" with his Empire salary.

The actor was photographed striding into a Cook County Courthouse on Tuesday for a hearing he wasn't even required to attend.

On Friday, a Chicago grand jury hit the singer with 16 counts of disorderly conduct for fabricating the alleged January 29 attack during which he claims two masked white males beat him up and hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him and doused him with bleach.

Police were able to piece together surveillance camera footage that led them to Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo and his brother, Abindola "Abel" Osundairo, bodybuilding brothers who had worked with Smollett as extras on "Empire" and as a fitness coach.

In January, Smollett told police that two masked men attacked him, put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him as he was walking home from a Subway restaurant.

The Jussie Smollett case is one of the more odd events that's occurred in 2019 so far.

"They were paid for the training. but they were also asked to do this favor for him", she told the anchor.

Jets to sign 4-time Pro Bowl LB Barr
Getting Barr is a big boost to the defense, and putting him back on the outside of a 3-4 defense could unlock his true potential. The blitzing linebacker was the Jets' first coup of free agency and was followed Tuesday morning by reports they had signed C.J.

She said her clients are remorseful for their role in the situation and they hope it opens dialogue for people in minority communities and those that have suffered hate crimes. "What is unexpected, however, is the prosecutorial overkill in charging 16 separate counts against Jussie".

"They fully cooperated with the police".

He has been dropped from the last two episodes of the show's current season, and his future is now in the hands of the court.

Smollett has denied any involvement in orchestrating an attack.

Meanwhile, Smollett's attorney, Mark Geragos, wonders why the Osundairo brothers were not indicted right along with his client.

Schmidt said she does not know if the brothers will testify against Smollett at trial, noting it's not up to her who prosecutors call as witnesses.

Smollett was indicted on 16 counts last week - one for each allegedly false statement he gave police in interviews. On Friday, 20th Century Fox said the studio and the network had no comment on Smollett's indictment.
