First trailer for live action Aladdin looks like a joke

His "hip-hop" Genie seems pretty comfortable in his own skin, and it's hard not to be reminded of the effortless (if slightly dorky) cool Smith possessed on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. We also get a preview of the film's take on the classic song "A Whole New World" and get to see Will Smith's Genie in action. The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.

Those into the music of Aladdin certainly won't be let down by the live-action film, as it features new songs written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar, Tony, and Grammy-winning duo of La La Land and The Greatest Showman fame, and long-time Disney composer Alan Menken.

About a month ago, Disney released a trailer for its upcoming live-acton Aladdin remake, the latest part in its 100-part plan to weaponize your nostalgia and make several trillion dollars.

The trailer pulls back the curtain further on Smith's Genie, whose bluish hue received mix reaction from quick-triggers on social media earlier; it's clear from today's footage though that he's got a lot more to do than cross his arms and grant wishes. "Aladdin" opens in theaters on May 24th. I'm certainly curious to see the full film, but this trailer doesn't completely win me over just yet. Now that we have a trailer, though, what can we tell of Aladdin? Yes, even the actor's not-menacing-at-all voice. One other user tweeted, "This is the BEST the movie has looked so far!"

A rather note-worthy moment in the trailer was Will Smith's appearance.

As for Aladdin and Jasmine, they look ... fine?
