Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin Indicted in Ivy League Bribery Scheme

According to recently unsealed court documents, dozens of well-off people were arrested in connection with a college admission scam, and among those charged were Hollywood celebrities Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.

The FBI and federal prosecutors say parents paid bribes totaling $25 million from 2011 to 2019 to arrange for their children to cheat on entrance exams and win admission on bogus athletic grounds, The Associated Press reported.

It added: "Huffman later made arrangements to pursue the scheme a second time, for her younger daughter, before deciding not to do so". Reports out of Boston indicate that Loughlin and her husband paid $500,000 to have their two daughters "designated as USC crew recruits, even though they didn't row".

Both TV stars have been charged with with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud.

Vandemoer was scheduled to enter his plea to a charge of conspiracy to commit racketeering at the U.S. Federal Court in San Francisco.

Singer, who is from Newport Beach, California, is facing racketeering, money laundering, conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges in a Boston federal court. According to the AP, prosecutors allege fake athletic profiles were made and administrators were bribed to allow a Florida man to take admissions tests on behalf of students.

Former Yale women's soccer coach Rudolph "Rudy" Meredith was named one of Singer's co-conspirators and was charged with two counts of wire fraud.

In all, 50 people were charged in the criminal investigation that went by the name "Operation Varsity Blues". Loughlin and Huffman did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment.
