In 2000, the measles virus was declared eliminated in the United States because of the measles vaccine, a strong vaccination program that achieves high vaccine coverage in children and a strong public health system for detecting and responding to measles cases and outbreaks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There are 54 known cases of measles in the state - 53 in Clark County and one in King County as of February 11. Two of those cases have moved to Georgia.

The number of measles cases in the US has reached the triple digits in a little over a month.
