Jennifer Lopez faces backlash for Motown tribute

As TooFab noted, not only is Lopez not black but her own music style is nothing like Motown's sound.

Jennifer recently set tongues wagging after paying tribute to Motown during her performance at the Grammys. Some especially took issue with the Recording Academy, which is responsible for producing the show, not using the many Black women vocalists in the industry to headline the tribute. Motown churned out Black artist after Black artist who became icons of music in a time when Black people were combating overt racism on the daily. But when the show announced that Jennifer Lopez would be included in the performance, people weren't quite sure what was going to go down. "You can't tell people what they can and can't do - what they should sing or not sing". "You gotta do what's in your heart".

"So now if you're gonna try to diminish the scope of Motown and narrow it down to just music for Black people and you call yourself defending the image of Motown". The legendary singer/songwriter/producer also performed alongside J.Lo, said she had more than enough credibility "growing up in her Hispanic neighborhood" in the Bronx.

At least one good thing came out of the whole ordeal: a stream of hilarious tweets proposing fake, equally ill-fitting tributes at future Grammys ceremonies.
