Adesanya stakes his claim after beating Silva at UFC 234

Rising mixed martial arts star Israel Adesanya has beaten out former middleweight world champion Anderson Silva in a wild three-round brawl at UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) 234 at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on Sunday. No, it wasn't the man he defeated twice before.

The influences Silva has had on Adesanya were clear during the fight, with similarities between the approaches of the two obvious to see.

Silva and Diaz fought one of the more freakish bouts in UFC history in 2013, where neither seemed very interested in throwing major strikes.

Anderson Silva was making his first appearance since 2017 but the 43-year-old Brazilian suffered a unanimous defeat to Israel Adesanya.

Unlike in Whittaker's last supposed title defense, there were no problems at the weigh-in as the scale totaled 185 pounds for Whittaker compared to 184 for Gastelum.

Brett Okamoto, Chael Sonnen and Gilbert Melendez discuss if Robert Whittaker should be stripped of his belt after pulling out of UFC 234 due to an abdominal hernia.

In the first round, 29-year-old Adesanya landed several kicks and right hands.

UK's May rejects pivot towards Brexit customs union compromise
Her meetings in Brussels on Thursday made no breakthrough and fears of a "no-deal" scenario that gridlocks trade are running high. But it was rejected by the UK Parliament and if it is not approved by Brexit day, the default position would be a no-deal Brexit.

Silva said it was the equivalent of facing Michael Jordan in basketball. Silva came back in the second, but a strong third round was enough for a comfortable Adesanya victory.

While Adesanya captured a unanimous decision by scores of 30-27 twice and 29-28, it was a competitive bout from start to finish and Adesanya wasn't able to blow Silva out of the water like many expected.

Still, Adesanya never allowed himself to eat too much damage before resetting in the center of the cage where he was constantly the aggressor. "I'm just waiting for Dana [White], because it's not time to make the decisions". Insane week. I showed up to work, a lot of people didn't. I was fighting the doctors all the way up until they said, 'You've gotta get surgery or you're gonna lose part of your bowel. "I talked to Nick's manager a couple months ago, and Nick said, 'OK, let's go do it. Let's talk to Dana.' I'm just waiting for Dana".

Earlier this week, White had said the winners of the Whittaker-Gastelum and Adesanya-Silva fights would meet later this year.

Meanwhile, Silva embraced the crowd following his hard fought loss and stated once again that he's not going anywhere except back to the gym to prepare for his next fight.

Lando Vannata, Ricky Simon, Montana De La Rosa and Jimmy Crute were also victorious on the main card.
