Mazda Marks Miata's 30th With Party, Special Edition

The Mazda MX-5 Miata celebrates three decades of top-down motoring with the arrival of a special 30th Anniversary Edition model.

For instance, it's fitted with forged aluminum wheels from Rays, sitting in front of orange Brembo brake calipers. The 17-inch forged Rays wheels are unique, too, inspired by the wheels on the MX-5 Cup race vehicle and painted gunmetal gray. The new Racing Orange paint was developed specifically for the 30th Anniversary Edition Miata, and Mazda says it "represents sunrise and anticipation" and "evokes the breaking dawn of an exciting new day".

The veil was lifted from the limited edition model at the Chicago auto show in the U.S., which is just getting underway now. The bespoke Alcantara RECARO racing seats also sport piping in a similar orange as well.

Hard to believe, but it's been 30 years since the original Mazda Miata flipped up its headlights and said hello to the world.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the iconic Mazda MX-5 Miata brand showed MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition.

Production will be limited to just 3,000 units, with prices starting at $35,915. Curiously, the 30th Anniversary Edition also gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, something absent from standard 2019 Miatas.

Mazda believes that the MX-5 is now as much a part of the community as it is a Mazda product given the love people have shown over four generations of this compact roadster, and hopefully there are many more to come.

Engine-wise, the 30th Anniversary model gets the updated version of the 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G engine, producing 184 PS at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The starting MSRP for a soft top, manual auto is $34,995. There are more than 1 million examples of the MX-5 out there in the wild, including various special edition limited run models in the past.
