Justin Fairfax Removed as Chair of Lieutenant Governors Association

Embattled Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax is ousted as chairman from the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association, as the fallout from his sexual misconduct allegations continues.

Fairfax, in a statement, denied the woman's allegation. Watson told multiple friends and classmates about the assault after it happened - both verbally and in Facebook messages and emails, she has revealed through her attorney.

Ms Watson is not seeking any damages, her lawyer says, but "came forward out of a strong sense of civic duty" and hopes Mr Fairfax will resign from public office.

Watson, Trinity '01, claimed Fairfax raped her when they were undergraduate students.

On Friday night, Fairfax is now facing calls to resign after a former fellow student from his college days said he raped her while they were at Duke together back in 2000.

Fairfax emphatically denied the new allegation, as he did the first one, leveled earlier this week by Vanessa Tyson, a California college professor who said Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex on him at a Boston hotel in 2004.

Gov. Justin Fairfax repeated Saturday that he is not resigning after two women came forward and accused him of sexual assault.

Should all three men be forced to resign, Democrats would lose the governorship to the state's Republican speaker of the House of Delegates, who is third in the line of succession, after Fairfax and Herring.

"She left a campus party when he arrived, and he followed her out", Smith wrote in her statement. Tim Kaine said, "The allegations against him detail atrocious crimes".

Virginia's current governor, Ralph Northam, as well its attorney general, Mark Herring, have been embroiled in a controversy surrounding use of blackface for the past week. Durham police spokesman Wil Glenn also said he couldn't find a report in the department's system on the 2000 allegation.

"I demand a full investigation into these unsubstantiated and false allegations", he said, according to the New York Times.

Northam, 59, said he wants to spend the remaining three years of his term trying to ensure that black Virginians have the same opportunities as whites. Petersen's Democratic-leaning district includes Fairfax and Vienna.

The 59-year-old Democrat gave his first interview to the newspaper since the photograph surfaced.

The Democrat defended his vow to stay in office despite widespread calls for his resignation.

'It has taken time for me to make sure that it's not me, but I am convinced, I am convinced that I am not in that picture, ' he told reporters at the Executive Mansion in Richmond, calling the picture offensive and horrific.

A statement released by Tyson's attorneys said: "We are confident that once the Virginia legislature hears Dr. Tyson's harrowing account of this sexual assault, the testimony of many corroborating witnesses, and evidence of his attempts to mislead the public about The Washington Post's decision not to run a story in 2018, it will conclude that he lacks the character, fitness and credibility to serve in any capacity".

Comstock suggested probing who knew about the accusations against the lieutenant governor and when they knew about them.

Following news of a second accuser against Fairfax, Democratic state lawmakers in Virginia issued a call for Fairfax to resign, as did the Virginia Black Legislative Caucus.
