Was The Fourth Warmest Year In A Continued Warming Trend

Global temperatures in 2018 were the fourth warmest on record, US government scientists have confirmed, adding to a stretch of five years that are now collectively the hottest period since modern measurements began.

Record-breaking: The NASA study found that Earth's global surface temperature a year ago was 0.83 °C warmer than the 1951-1980 mean. Nine of the hottest years have occurred since 2005, with the past five years being the warmest on record.

The average global temperature during 2018 was 1.42 degrees F above the 20th-century average.

As parts of the mid-western United States were gripped by a "polar vortex" last week that saw temperatures plunge to lows of -64 degrees Fahrenheit (-53C), US President Donald Trump suggested that the cold weather front cast doubt over the veracity of climate change data. "It's the long-term trends that are having impacts on ice, on severity of droughts, on heat waves, on sea level rise and wildfires". The world needs to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by the 2030s to avoid breaching limits set out in the Paris climate agreement, the United Nations warned previous year, at a time when global emissions show no sign of decline.

The two agencies use much of the same data but perform independent analyses with minor differences in methods that yield slightly different rankings.

"The 20 warmest years on record have been in the past 22 years", Mr Taalas said.

Antetokounmpo drafted Ben Simmons , much to James' dismay, but they agreed to work out a trade after the draft was complete. Since it was that time of year, James said would give Antetokounmpo Westbrook for Ben Simmons , another All-Star reserve .

NOAA said the average temperature for the contiguous U.S.in 2018 was 53.5 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a warmer-than-average year for the 22nd year in a row.

Along with this, Nasa and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have also released new figures for global warming. "Many countries and millions of people have experienced to 2018, extreme weather events, with devastating consequences for the economy and the Ecosystem". These calculations produce the global average temperature deviations from the baseline period of 1951 to 1980.

WMO also released a report on Wednesday that the globally averaged temperature in 2018 was about 0.38 degrees Celsius above the 1981 to 2010 long-term average. The NOAA data ranks 2018 as Australia's third warmest year since 1910.

"The planet is warming".

"The key issues in reducing emissions are moving towards renewable fuels for electricity, moving away from internal combustion engines for transport, sequestering carbon more efficiently in agriculture, making better decisions about how we organise our world so that we don't need so much energy", Schmidt said.
