Whoopi Goldberg to host the Oscars?

With Kevin Hart stepping down from hosting duties of The Oscars ceremony in February, the event is now host-less.

According to Variety, the show will use a new format with stars introducing various segments. Representatives of the Academy say that in recent years the ceremony is too much focused on the role of facilitator.

And, as the Oscars recently found out, it's an even tougher challenge in a politically charged era of old social media posts that could haunt contenders.

Goldberg said: "If you want to go host-less, that's your prerogative". I think it might end up being a net positive over life.

"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's.this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many fantastic talented artists", he wrote on Twitter.

These actions inspired Netflix to release a statement, urging people not to put themselves in danger with the viral challenge . All this despite the fact that Netflix have actually warned people to stop doing the Bird Box challenge.

Colbert, interviewing Hart after he's talked about the issue with just about everyone else he could, begins by acknowledging "you've already given the answers, I'll go read this someplace else".

The reason for this was that he said he had already addressed the tweets and apologised for them in the past.

We are in the depths of awards season, with the big daddy of all the ceremonies set to take place on Sunday 24 February.

The Academy nearly reconsidered Hart after he agreed to sit down with talk show host Ellen Degeneres in early January.

Currently, the plan is to have as many A-listers possible to present awards.
