Woman Can't Hear Her Boyfriend's Voice Because Of A Rare Condition.

Reverse-slope hearing loss caused a Chinese woman to only hear female voices.

The woman from Xiamen, on China's east coast, knew something was wrong when she woke up and couldn't hear her boyfriend's voice, MailOnline reported citing AsiaWire.

At the hospital, Chen was treated by Dr. Lin Xiaoqing - a woman - who noted that while Chen was able to hear Xiaoqing's voice, she couldn't hear the voice of a nearby male patient "at all", according to Newsweek.

After authorities arrived, they were able to reunite the baby with her father, Hasan Ali Abdul Kasim, FOX6 Milwaukee reported. The bus driver was honoured at a commendation ceremony on Thursday. "She did a lot more than her job.

Ms Chen was diagnosed with reverse-slope hearing loss (or low-frequency hearing loss), a condition which is said to affect nearly one in 13,000 people with hearing problems.

As well as struggling to hear low-frequency voices, those with the condition can find it hard to hear voices on the phone properly, as well as low noises like the hum of the fridge or thunder. According to Thigpen Hearing Center, many people with this condition don't even realize they have it. That is just one in every 12,000 incidents of hearing loss. It affects an estimated 3,000 people in the USA and Canada - for every 12,000 people with hearing loss, only one individual has RSHL, the audiology clinic reported. Less often, a shift in the pressure of ear fluid can trigger reverse-sloping hearing loss. Aka a difficulty in identifying high frequency. In a thread on Twitter, a user named Nayook shared the experience of living with the condition - which she said isn't very fun after all. In this condition, the plot of the audiogram runs from the upper-left-hand corner of the graph and travels downwards like a ski-slope.

Although there are a number of causes of reverse-slope hearing losses, the most common causes are genetic abnormalities, Wolfram syndrome and Mondini dysplasia.

It has been linked to genetics and can be triggered by certain diseases (for example, Ménière's disease) and viral infections. Before she went to bed one evening, she experienced nausea and a ringing in her ears.
