The Accidental Prime Minister: Anupam Kher on how he became Manmohan Singh

The movie revolves around the story of Manmohan Singh who was the former Prime Minister of India and the decisions he took was ultimately governed by the former president of the Indian National Congress. Some Congress members were noted saying that they will not let the movie release in the country due to the facts while BJP praised the work of the entire Accidental Prime Minister's makers by saying that the movie narrates the tale of a family who ruled the country for 10 years.

The filing of appeal in the top court came hours after a division bench of the high court dismissed the PIL, which had sought a ban on the film and its trailer alleging it defamed the constitutional post of the Prime Minister.

It is based on a book with the same title written by Sanjaya Baru, former Prime Minister Singh's media advisor.

The film is scheduled for release on January 11.

Actor Anupam Kher plays the role of Manmohan Singh, Suzanne Bernert that of Sonia Gandhi and Arjun Mathur of Rahul Gandhi.

It alleged that the promo of the film showed that the movie has been produced "simply to damage the image" of Manmohan Singh.

Advocate Sangram Patnaik, appearing for film producers Sunil Bohra and Dhaval Gada, had told the high court that the plea was not maintainable and how the production house was not made a party in it.
