Three-Week-Old iPhone XS Max Reportedly Catches Fire in Ohio

Hillard was going about his day, enjoying his lunch break when he stated that a weird smell emanated from his brand new iPhone XS Max that he kept in the rear pocket of his pant. A colleague, a VP in Hillard's company, noticed him yelling and used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire after Hillard removed his trousers.

Man, referred to as J. Hillard, said that the incident took place during his lunch break, when he noticed a unusual smell coming from his phone, which was also inside his rear trousers pocket. Apple is yet to respond to the whole fiasco, and we will update with more details as and when it does.

After Samsung's exploding smartphones, it's Apple's turn to explain an incident involving an OH resident who claims that his iPhone XS Max caught fire and then exploded while in his pocket earlier this month.

Hillard wasn't happy with the response he received from Apple Store employees, so he took his burnt iPhone XS Max and went home, where he called Apple Care. The cut was mainly due to weak outlook for the iPhone XS Max, analyst William Yang said in a research note.

Hillard then ventured off to his local Apple Store to inquire about fix or replacement of the iPhone. He gave all the information about the phone, incident, location to a senior specialist after which he was sent a mail stating that he had to send photos of the phone, his clothes, and if there was any injury.

These new camera chips are expected to hugely impact mobile photography, gaming and phone user interface, and Sony hopes such tech will reinvigorate the slumping market. When the employee came back the phone was packaged and he was told that they have to send the phone back to the engineering team and that there is no other way that he could receive a replacement unless he surrenders his burned iPhone XS Max.

The images he shared with iDrop News show severe damage to the handset.

After various rounds of complaints to Apple, Hillard was eventually offered a new iPhone which he considers an 'acceptable remedy for the situation'. He also expects compensation for his wireless service, which he was not able to use while his phone is in limbo, and for his time discussing the matter with Apple.

He is "contemplating legal action" against the $750 billion company, according to the report.
