United States warship sails in Sea of Japan waters claimed by Russian Federation

Yesterday, the Russian Defence Ministry commented the U.S. Navy operation "freedom of navigation" in the Sea of Japan, by stating that the Russian military follow closely the U.S. guided missile destroyer McCampbell, which was reported by the U.S. Navy yesterday (6th December) that had approached a Russian military base in the Primorye Region.

US officials say such operations are meant to enforce the right of free passage in global waters and to challenge excessive claims.

The US Navy bragged that its destroyer came to "challenge" Moscow in the Sea of Japan, but the ship didn't even come near Russia's territorial waters and was tracked all the way, the Defense Ministry said.

According to U.S. officials, these operations are created to ensure respect for the right of free passage in global waters and to challenge excessive claims.

The Pacific Fleet says these operations demonstrate that the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever worldwide law allows, including in the Sea of Japan and elsewhere around the globe. "This applies to both the sea of Japan and to other places around the world", said Makmur. Another US ship is expected in the Black Sea soon, amid tensions between Russian Federation and Ukraine.

The US Navy sent a warship to challenge Russia's maritime claims in the East Sea/Sea of Japan on Wednesday amid rising tensions between the military superpowers.

Her co-hosts were less sold on the song's innocence. "Back then it didn't mean you drugged me". San Francisco radio station KOIT received negative responses after playing the song recently.

Under worldwide law, a nation's territorial waters extend 12 nautical miles from the coast.

The U.S. frequently conducts freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea to challenge China's claims to islands which are contested by a number of countries in Southeast Asia.

The US Navy could also be planning to send a warship into the Black Sea in the near future. Vladivostok is located along the edge of the bay and hosts the headquarters of the Russian Pacific Fleet.

The 1936 treaty also limits the presence of ships from nations that don't border the Black Sea to a maximum of 21 days.

"We routinely conduct operations to advance security and stability throughout the USA 6th Fleet area of operations to include the worldwide waters and airspace of the Black Sea", fleet spokesman Commander Kyle Raines told CNN.

The McCampbell's operation comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Moscow on a range of issues, including the announcement by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Tuesday that the USA would pull out of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) in 60 days should Russian Federation fail to return to compliance.
