Trump to name former Fox anchor Heather Nauert as next United Nations ambassador

Sources are indicating US President Donald Trump has made the previously-hinted-at decision to replace retiring United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley with foreign-policy newcomer Heather Nauert.

She would replace Nikki Haley, who announced that she was resigning in October.

Nauert was named as the State Department spokeswoman in April 2017.

Nauert, whose nomination would require Senate confirmation, is a former Fox News Channel correspondent and anchor.

It was reported in November that Nauert had been offered the job, but it was not clear at the time whether she had accepted. She will have to be confirmed by the Senate to become ambassador to the United Nations.

Although some have speculated that Haley may challenge Mr. Trump in 2020, Haley has said that she will support the president.

Trump keeps up pressure on Democrats over border wall funding
He did not provide any evidence for the savings, but again threatened to close the "entire Southern Border if necessary". President Donald Trump is keeping the pressure on congressional Democrats over funding for his promised border wall.

Nauert and the State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Fox News said Mr Trump would tweet about the appointment on Friday morning, while Bloomberg said it had been told of the decision to appoint Ms Nauert by three sources. She announced in October that she would leave the position by the end of the year. She does not have prior political or policy-making experience.

While Haley consistently maintained overt antagonism toward Russia in the United Nations, it's unlikely to get any better with Nauert, the speaker that brought us "Russia has long arms, Russia has lots of tentacles" in regard to the Skripal case, and once refused to answer a reporter's question because she was Russian saying: "Russian?"

Nauert, who earlier this year had been considered a possible successor to White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, gained experience on diplomacy by working at the State Department, but she lacks the political and policy credentials of Haley, a former SC governor.

The post is considered one of the highest profile positions in USA diplomacy.
