Jake Gyllenhaal Confirms 'Spider-Man' Role in First Instagram Post

Jake Gyllenhaal Confirms 'Spider-Man' Role in First Instagram Post

In a much-liked Instagram video shared Wednesday, actor Jake Gyllenhaal appears to have confirmed he's playing villain Mysterio in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Far From Home.

He posted a video as his very first post on the social media site.

The actor, 37, used his first-ever Instagram post to announce his role in the action film.

Though this is Sony's third take on Spider-Man, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield having previously portrayed the webslinger in the Spider-Man trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man respectively, the current Spider-Man is the first to be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's now unclear which incarnation of Mysterio Gyllenhaal will be portraying.

Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, not Gyllenhaal, in the lead role, and comes out in July 2019.

NASA spacecraft meets with asteroid today
It is a tool designed pinch the asteroid, take a sample of it and return it back to Earth for study. Bennu is about 1,600 feet (500 meters) in diameter, about the size of a small mountain.

Spider-Man creators, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, introduced Mysterio in the comics in 1964. Quite an odd villain, Mysterio relies on more of a smoke and mirrors approach in trying to defeat his spider-nemesis.

Mysterio is a special effects expert who commits crimes and fights Spider-Man using elaborate illusions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He will be joining Tom Holland, who is reprising his role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, as well as cast members including Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Marisa Tomei, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2019.
