Infant liquid ibuprofen sold at Walmart, CVS, Family Dollar recalled

A statement from the company says the recalled products have the lot numbers 00717024A from CVS and 00717024A from Family Dollar, both with August 2019 expiration dates.

The products are used as "a pain reliever/fever reducer", officials say. Other side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tinnitus, headache and stomach bleeding.

In a statement, the company said there is a "remote possibility" that the higher potency of the drug can lead to permanent kidney damage in infants. It was sold in lots that went to some Walmart, CVS Pharmacy and Family Dollar stores.

"Wholesalers and retailers of the product should stop further distribution of the affected lots of Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID) 50 mg per 1.25 mL, which are being recalled".

At Walmart, the recalled lots are 00717009A (expiry 02/19), 00717015A (expiry 04/19) and 00717024A (expiry 08/19).

Tris Pharma said it had not received any reports of adverse effects related to the recall.

CVS sells the ibuprofen under the label CVS Health, Family Dollar sells it under Family Wellness and Walmart sells it under Equate.
