Facebook gave Netflix and Airbnb preferential data access to data, documents reveal

The UK parliament's fake news inquiry has published a cache of seized Facebook documents.

The release covers 250 pages including the MPs' summary and exhibits including emails from figures including Mark Zuckerberg and internal Facebook documents.

Six4Three's founder, Ted Kramer, had obtained them as part of a legal discovery process in a USA lawsuit against Facebook that his company has brought against the social network in California.

As for the DCMS's assertions regarding how the company's "reciprocity" provision and its Onavo VPN app dealt with user data, Facebook points out that users "had the choice" as to whether or not they would opt in and share their data.

"Facebook have clearly entered into whitelisting agreements with certain companies, which meant that after the platform changes in 2014/15 they maintained full access to friends Data", Collins wrote in the report.

Facebook said in a statement released to AFP that the Six4Three emails "are only part of the story and are presented in a way that is very misleading without additional context".

The documents, which had been sealed by a California court, led lawmakers to conclude that Facebook undertook deals with third party apps that continued to allow access to personal data.

George Soros’s university says it is being forced out of Hungary
Orban whose vision for an "illiberal democracy" in Hungary clashes with the liberal, internationalist vision championed by Mr. The university said it would begin teaching all US-accredited programs in a new site in Vienna starting in September 2019.

"We stand by the platform changes we made in 2015 to stop a person from sharing their friends' data with developers", said Facebook's spokeswoman.

"Like any business, we had many internal conversations about the various ways we could build a sustainable business model for our platform".

Facebook is accused of using this data to assess "not just how many people had downloaded apps, but how often they used them".

Officials also debated in emails whether to give app developers that spent money in advertising better access to its data, while simultaneously taking "aggressive positions" against apps that competed with them by denying them access to data.

In January 2013, Facebook VP Justin Osofsky emailed Zuckerberg about the now-defunct social media app Vine, suggesting that Facebook "shut down their friends API access".

Zuckerberg's response, according to the email, was to "go for it".

Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but has disputed such allegations in the past.
