Quora discloses mega breach impacting 100 million users

Question-and-answer website Quora said on Monday (Dec 3) its user data had been compromised, with about 100 million users affected by the security breach. There has been no official confirmation yet as to what linked data Quora imports from social logins from popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

For about 327 million of the total 500 million affected, the compromised information included data such as names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, passport numbers, Starwood Preferred Guest account information, date of birth, gender, arrival and departure information, reservation date and communication preferences.

It also includes content like posted questions, answers, comments and upvotes - which is public anyway - as well as answer requests, downvotes and direct messages. Potentially affected users have been logged out and their passwords invalidated.

Marriott hotels also revealed on Friday that the FBI was investigating a data breach of its systems which exposed the details of up to 500 million guests.

But the main factor on how the Raptors can be different from every other Warriors-challenger is defense. They will need to be on their A-game if the Warriors have any chance of beating the beasts of the East.

Quora said they discovered the hack on Friday, November 30, but didn't say when the actual breach happened.

In a blog post, Quora's CEO Adam D'Angelo said the company believes that the root cause had been identified and that it has "taken steps to address the issue, although our investigation is ongoing and we'll continue to make security improvements".

"We are in the process of notifying users whose data has been compromised", D'Angelo further wrote. Anyone who had reused a password elsewhere is advised to create a new password for that account too. The hacker had copied and encrypted information and "took steps toward removing it", Marriott said.

Or you could completely delete your account by going to your profile picture settings privacy delete account. The email is an exact copy of the post on the Quora website. Law enforcement has been notified, it added.
