Fox News comes out in support of CNN's lawsuit against Trump admin.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the lawsuit "grandstanding" and said the White House had to address Acosta's attempt to "monopolize the floor".

A federal judge will hold a hearing on Wednesday on CNN's lawsuit against Donald Trump's administration alleging the White House violated correspondent Jim Acosta's constitutional rights by revoking his press credentials following a heated exchange with the United States president.

The case was filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., and was assigned to Judge Timothy J. Kelly, a Trump appointee.

12 other news organizations have also come out in support of the "independent journalist", including Bloomberg and the Associated Press. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponised.

A White House intern tried to take the microphone from Mr Acosta as he tried to ask the president another question.

CNN's lawsuit threatens to throw its owner, AT&T Inc., and the Trump administration back in court just months after the two sides squared off before a judge over whether AT&T can buy Time Warner Inc. Today, Acosta is getting somewhat surprising support from a chief competitor, Fox News.

During a press conference at White House last week, Trump berated Acosta when he challenged the president's assertion that a caravan of Central American migrants making its way on foot through Mexico to the US border represented an "invasion".

Fox News president Jay Wallace said security credentials for political reporters should not be "weaponised" by politicians.

Also known as the Belleau Wood cemetery, the site is home to the graves of 2,289 American war dead and 1,060 names of the missing. The White House has defended US President Donald Trump's decision to miss a memorial event on Saturday after he faced a backlash.

As CNN said in court documents filed Tuesday, the White House denied Acosta's application for a day pass on November 8, the day after his hard pass was revoked following the post-midterms news conference.

The White House suspended his credentials later that day, with Sanders alleging that Acosta had put his hands on the intern who was trying to take the microphone from him.

"He's got a loud voice", Trump said, adding: "You have to treat the White House of the office of the president with great respect".

Acosta did eventually surrendered the microphone, but the White House also suspended Acosta's press pass.

In a signed declaration, CNN Washington Bureau Chief Sam Feist wrote that "reliance on daily passes" to access other unscheduled events on the White House grounds like "gaggles" and off-camera briefings was "impracticable at best, impossible at worst".

The American network said its correspondent Jim Acosta's removal was a violation of his First Amendment rights to freely report on the government.

Speaking at the Global Financial Leadership Conference in Florida, Woodward said the remedy to Trump isn't a lawsuit, but "more serious reporting" about his actions, according to NBC reporter Dylan Byers who tweeted the comments.

Sean Hannity has unloaded on Acosta since the incident, calling the CNN correspondent a "far-left, grandstanding, sycophant left-winger" on Tuesday night. "That is the First Amendment".
