Trump considering Christie, Bondi for attorney general

Christie, a former U.S. attorney, could face similar calls to the ones Sessions faced to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation given his role as a prominent 2016 campaign surrogate for Trump.

Gonzales, who was the attorney general in George W. Bush's administration from 2005 to 2007, said he doesn't know Whitaker, his qualifications or motivations, but there's a lot that calls into question his appointment.

Special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of prosecutors are in the process of writing a final report on the almost 18-month long investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 election, sources tell ABC News. He was a vocal critic of Mr Mueller, arguing in an op-ed for CNN past year that the probe should not go into the finances of Mr Trump and his family members.

On Wednesday, Goodlatte issued a statement praising Sessions' service as attorney general and wishing Whitaker well in his new role.

"The forced firing of Attorney General Sessions appears to be part of an ongoing pattern of behavior by the president seeking to undermine (the) investigation into Russian interference", said the letter to Goodlatte, written by Representative Jerrold Nadler, the committee's top Democrat, and 16 other Democrats who sit on the panel.

That drew criticism from Democrats in Congress because Whitaker, who would now take over responsibility for overseeing Mueller and his investigation, has been critical of the Mueller probe, saying it should be scaled back.

Less than 24 hours after the polls closed around the country, before results from Tuesday's elections were certified, Attorney General Jeff Sessions submitted his resignation. "Clearly, Attorney General Sessions doesn't have the confidence of the president".

OK, the Le’Veon Bell story just got turned upside-down
Le'Veon Bell is in Pittsburgh, but that doesn't mean he will be reporting for work anytime soon, or anytime at all. Bell would surrender the final $6.84 million of his salary if he elects not to sign the franchise tender.

Installing Whitaker could clear the way for Trump to force out Mueller.

In February 2016, Sessions became the first sitting senator to endorse Trump's presidential campaign, and in the months leading up to the election, he became one of the candidate's closest national security advisers. Session was long criticized by Trump from recusing himself from the Russian Federation investigation.

That left Rosenstein overseeing the investigation, and he named Mueller as special counsel.

In a letter, Mr Sessions said he was resigning at the president's request. Eight guilty pleas have resulted so far, and one jury trial conviction.

Trump's running commentary criticizing Sessions and the Justice Department injected more turmoil into an agency that was still reeling from the president's firing of FBI Director James Comey in May 2017.

Sessions, 71, has a long political history in Alabama.

On the very morning after Kobach lost his bid for the Governor's Mansion, a new job opening has some people thinking Kobach may get a spot in President Trump's Cabinet - and it may not take much more than two seconds.
