MLB Rumors: Free Agent Bryce Harper To The Yankees ‘Not Happening’

The Washington Nationals made a contract offer to Bryce Harper late in the season to try and prevent him from becoming a free agent.

"It behooves us to have an expiration date", Rizzo told reporters Tuesday, an indication the Nationals are prepared to move on in their plans without Harper because, as one person familiar with the situation said, they "can't have $300 million dangling out there for months". Harper's agent, Scott Boras, has a history of extending contract talks with his free agent players beyond the holiday season.

Harper has expressed a desire to remain with the Washington Nationals but they could face a challenge if other clubs are motivated to spend lavishly. But the Dodgers could have a change of heart.

Harper headlines one of the most valuable free-agent classes in Major League Baseball history, which also includes infielder Manny Machado, closer Craig Kimbrel and former Cy Young Award victor Dallas Keuchel.

At just 26-years-old Harper has won Rookie of the Year and an MVP award. It may not have been.

Democrats last controlled the governorship and both chambers of the Legislature in 2008, during the administration of Gov. Those tax cuts, designed to create jobs, have widely been viewed as President Trump's signature legislative achievement.

Citing a "well-place source", Olney says Harper is "not going to be a Yankee". It will cost them roughly $13 million. Just how big his contract will be remains to be seen; however, he's already turned down a massive deal. A six-time MLB All-Star, the outfielder hit.249 with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs during the 2018 season.

Part of the thought in signing Harper would be that you may be paying for his peak.

First, the Nationals - often described as somewhere between maddeningly selective in their spending and unnecessarily frugal - were willing to give one of their players a record-setting deal.

Harper has played for the Washington Nationals since 2012, but many expect him to look elsewhere in free agency.
