Britain's Prince Charles salutes Gambia's return to Commonwealth

The Duke and Duchess were met at the Kotoka International Airport by the Speaker of Parliament Prof.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla arrived in Accra yesterday afternoon where they walked down a red carpet at the start of their five-day stay.

The heir to the throne and the Duchess of Cornwall had a busy day in Gambia where highlights included the prince's visit to the Gambian Armed Forces Training School while his wife attended a Commonwealth Big Lunch at the High Commissioner's residence.

Prince Charles had an impromptu vibesing session with a traditional band after he arrived in Ghana for the latest leg of his West African tour. Camilla dressed in an elegant white dress with a summery straw bag and matching nude shoes for the couple's first engagement of the day in the capital city of Accra, where they were welcomed at Jubilee House by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

Prince Charles and his delegation will leave Banjul for Accra today and from there, he would proceed to Nigeria.

"We know the relations between our two countries go back centuries".

Charles said: 'We are friends and partners, and once again we are both members of the Commonwealth family of nations'.

The Prince of Wales would also confer with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace.

Additionally, the pair will visit the Christiansborg Castle, a once British-owned slave fort, which served as a seat of Ghana's government for decades.

On Friday Camilla had opted for a floaty cream dress, nude heels and a basket-effect bag to make the trip to Ghana, while Prince Charles wore a khaki suit and military badges.

Meanwhile, the Duchess, who is President of the Women of the World Festival, will attend an event featuring Ghana's top female leaders.
