Gas Pipeline Explosion Could Cause Gas Prices to Spike

North District RCMP have ruled out criminality as a potential cause of the explosion that heavily damaged an Enbridge natural gas pipeline in northern B.C. Tuesday.

National Energy Board spokesman Tom Neufeld said the fire was along Enbridge's Westcoast main line, which falls under the board's jurisdiction.

It says restoring flow in the smaller line is a positive step, but until the damaged larger line is repaired, a shortage of natural gas continues.

An investigation is underway and explains where they go from here.

Enbridge said it received NEB approval late Wednesday to restart its 76-centimetre line, which was shut down as a precaution because it is in the same path as the pipeline that exploded and burned.

Violet Bazoki said she's always been anxious about the safety of pipelines running through her community, particularly the risk of an explosion or fire cutting off the only road in and out.

Puget Sound Energy asked its customers in a tweet on Wednesday to conserve natural gas. "We'll know better when we look at it ourselves". The university still urges community members to limit or stop other usages of natural gas, such as those for research.

'We can advise the fire on the pipeline has been extinguished, the line has been isolated and fully depressurized.

The letter came the same day Pope Francis drew criticism for comments he made during a Mass in Rome. He added: "However, your nobility has led you not to choose this way of defense".

The line ruptured on Lheidli T'enneh reserve land and witnesses who saw the explosion described it as an incandescent orange fireball that could be seen for kilometres. I thought it might have been hail, but it wasn't. "So I would assume this is Enbridge's absolute No. 1 priority to get fixed".

About 700,000 customers in B.C. are affected by the shortage. "Island Health can transition from natural gas to fuel oil if necessary, but again that hasn't been asked of us".

"It's quite an unusual event", he said.

"We're not going to move away because of one explosion", Frederick said. Most residents were being allowed back into their homes Wednesday.

"By operating with stored LNG, they were able to push gas back up into B.C.to help us survive this crisis", he said.

The company will update its customers as soon as it is in a position to offer something new, said Stout.

"They had told me there was a gas building up in the underground".
