Blue Origin seals partnership with Air Force | Business Announcements

United Launch Alliance, Northrup Grumman and Blue Origin, a company owned by Amazon-founder Jeff Bezos, were awarded major Air Force contracts Wednesday totaling more than $2 billion to develop next-generation rockets capable of boosting high-value national security payloads into orbit.

Blue Origin said in a statement following yesterday's announcement that it will build a launch site at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, although it did not say what rockets would launch from the site. Unlike the Atlas V rocket that the company now uses, the new rocket will uses engines made in the United States.

Currently, only ULA and SpaceX, the company Elon Musk, are used by the us air force for missions of national security. The award to United Launch Alliance will be for development of the Vulcan Centaur Launch System. With the Congressional mandate to transition away from reliance on foreign rocket propulsion systems, and the planned Delta IV retirement, the Air Force developed an acquisition strategy to accelerate National Security Space launch requirements. Through public-private partnership agreements, the goal of the acquisition strategy is to satisfy federal law by ensuring that the USA maintains assured access to space, with at least two domestic launch service providers and without reliance on non-allied rocket propulsion systems.

Our launch program is a great example of how we are fielding tomorrow's Air Force faster and smarter. Blue Origin is developing a launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The New Glenn is a reusable orbital vehicle created to land back on Earth after launch.

Bolt scored his first goal in the 57th minute putting Central Coast 3-0 up with a powerful left-footed finish. After Friday's game Bolt said that he hoped to sit down with Mariners' management to sort out his future.

Blue Origin won a $500 million contract to help develop its New Glenn booster, a rocket with a fully reusable first stage powered by seven BE-4 engines burning liquefied natural gas.

Blue Origin will build the New Glenn launch vehicle under a potential $500M contract. SpaceX was not listed among the award recipients.

The Defense Department has the option to narrow it to two companies no later than 2020 that will then compete for future launches.

United Launch Alliance in 2015 announced it plans to retire the Delta IV variant.
