Swimmer Killed in Rare Cape Cod Shark Attack

Swimmer Killed in Rare Cape Cod Shark Attack

On 15 August, the state saw its first attack since 2012 when a NY man was severely injured off Truro, also on Cape Cod.

A boogie boarder in his mid twenties has died from injuries suffered in a shark attack in the waters off Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet at around noon Saturday.

The beach was closed to swimmers but the type of shark involved in the attack is not yet known.

The details of his injuries have not been revealed.

He said the man was unconscious when he was pulled out of the water and onto the beach. A lovely September day at the beach has been marred by tragedy. Fantastic effort by everyone who jumped into action to help this young man out.

The 26-year-old victim of the tragic and shocking shark attack in Cape Cod on September 15 has been identified as Brazilian student Arthur Medici, who moved to the states two years ago to attend college. "There'll be a determination later about what the town wants to do with the beaches going forward", he said.

Witnesses have claimed that they saw the victim and another man boogie boarding just off the beach when the disaster happened. He realized what was happening when the friend came to shore, dragging his injured friend.

Florence weakens to depression, flood risk rises
A mother and baby died when a tree crashed into their home, the Wilmington Police Department saidon TwitterFriday afternoon. He earlier said the storm system "is unloading epic amounts of rainfall: in some places, measured in feet, not inches".

Police responded on the scene immediately after the bite.

"I saw a worst nightmare unfold here", Booth said. "This has turned into Amity Island real quick out here".

This was the first deadly shark attack in MA since 1936.

The Cape Cod National Park Service revealed that around 12:30pm, Medici was knocked off his board while in the waters and was then attacked by the shark.

'The inshore waters off Wellfleet are a feeding ground for Great White Sharks.

"For Cape Cod we are experiencing an increasingly active shark population, which is a relatively new phenomenon for our region, requiring us to learn best practices in order to keep humans educated and safe", the statement says.

The chamber noted, though, that interactions between sharks and humans are still rare, based on a study from the University of Florida.
