Golovkin suffers first loss of pro career as Alvares prevails

The shot that has gained the most attention in the aftermath of the fight is Canelo's knockout blow that caught Golovkin right in the kisser.

Alvarez, who fought a controversial draw with Golovkin a year ago, said he would be ready for a third installment, possibly later this year.

Conlan tweeted: 'I don't think it was robbery, had Canelo winning and I really wanted Triple-G to win.

He said: 'I had Golovkin 117-112.

There was plenty of respect between the two fighters in the opening round, while Canelo continued to take it to Golovkin - pushing the defending champion onto the backfoot. He had always claimed to have been the true victor of the first fight and had now missed out on career wins 39 and 40 due to contentious scorecards.

"We appreciate the support but we can't be hypocritical and stand here complaining about every decision we lose", Sanchez said. I feel satisfied because I gave a great fight.

The fight came after an acrimonious weigh-in during which Alvares nearly head-butted Golovkin, who is known affectionately through the boxing world as "Triple-G".

The second victim, 42-year-old Claudine Anne Luera , was located alive along Texas Highway 255 near mile marker 436. The bodies of two women were found earlier in the week, and another two were found early Saturday morning .

Could the fight have gone either way?

The two boxers needed to be separated at Friday's weigh-in after Alvarez charged at Golovkin as they faced off. Golovkin kept up a steady attack on Alvarez for failing two tests for performance-enhancing drugs in February and a defiant Alvarez vowed to humiliate Golovkin. Alvarez also landed the more telling blows over the first six rounds.

Watching Gennady Golovkin lose to Canelo Alvarez hurt Abel Sanchez nearly as much as it hurt Golovkin himself. Yet despite getting rocked twice in Round 10, Alvarez bit down and weathered the storm in a manner that was nothing short of inspiring.

But the technical, tactical battle never quite lived up to the explosive classic which fans had hoped for. Who knows plenty about questionable decisions?

'I pushed him back, it was me who was aggressive.

"I showed my victory with facts, " Alvarez said. "This is a very important victory to me and my country, and my country will be proud".

Some will agree with the judges' call; others obviously do not. But on the biggest night of his career, calling Alvarez anything but the unified middleweight king would be selling him short.

Golovkin told reporters afterwards: "I'm not going to say who won tonight, because the victory belongs to Canelo according to the judges".
