CBS says '60 Minutes' exec Jeff Fager out for violating company policy

Jeff Fager, the veteran executive producer of "60 Minutes", was sacked on Wednesday amid accusations of inappropriate conduct at the acclaimed newsmagazine.

In a note to staff, CBS News president David Rhodes wrote that Fager's exit "is not directly related to the allegations surfaced in press reports, which continue to be investigated independently". Fager has denied charges made by former CBS employees in the New Yorker magazine of personal misbehavior at parties and not disciplining people under him who had misconduct issues.

In response, Fager told CBS in a statement that, after 36 years, he was sacked for a "harsh text" that he sent to another CBS reporter.

"60 Minutes" will enter its 51st season under the leadership of executive editor Bill Owens while the search for a new executive producer begins. My language was harsh and, despite the fact that journalists receive harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS did not like it.

On Sunday, Les Monves (right) resigned as CEO of CBS for a string of sexual misconduct allegations.

The investigation into Fager by an outside law firm is not complete.

Hopefully a few go back with a few minutes and when they get their opportunity with their club they will be more up to speed'. Football Association guidelines state a player who suffers concussion should not play for 14 days.

He said he didn't think one note would have resulted in a dismissal after 36 years at the network, "but it did".

Fager responded to Duncan's request for comment, a journalistic standard, with an angry response telling the reporter she would be "held responsible for harming me" if she repeated the allegations without her own reporting on the subject. "Be careful. There are people who lost their jobs trying to harm me and if you pass on these damaging claims without your own reporting to back them up that will become a serious problem".

In a new story on Sunday, Farrow cited a former intern who said that Fager once groped her at an office function and described the culture as "sexist" and a "boy's club". "It was. I'll have more reporting on this tonight", she tweeted. "However, he violated company policy and it is our commitment to uphold those policies at every level", wrote Rhodes. He was known as a hands-on executive producer, famous for meticulous involvement in screenings of prospective "60 Minutes" segments - in the tradition laid out by his predecessor.

After the text was shared on air, others at CBS also said they interpreted it as a threat. "Similar frustrations about perceived inaction have prompted another woman to raise a claim of misconduct against Jeff Fager".

Jeff Fager is leaving the company effective immediately.

CBS is now the most-watched network in the US.
