Two men sneak in self-made poster at McDonald’s for Asian representation

YouTuber Jev "Jevholution" Maravilla pulled off a convincing prank in a McDonald's, where he created a promotional poster of his own design and installed it without the staff noticing. Chronicled in a YouTube video, the pair put one up a poster of themselves holding a burger and fries and put it on the restaurant's wall.

"I noticed there was a blank wall at McDonald's so I chose to make this fake poster of me and my friend".

Maravilla found an old McDonald's shirt at Goodwill for $7 and dressed up as an employee.

On July 13, Maravilla, Toledo and friends snuck the over-sized poster into the Pearland McDonald's and proceeded to hang it on the wall without being detected.

"It's now been 51 days since i hung it up", he said on Twitter on Monday, Sept. 3.

Now, executives from some of those giants will tell lawmakers the steps they have taken since to prevent similar attacks. As the hearing began, social media stocks fell, with Twitter down 4.5 percent and Facebook around 1 percent lower.

"Look around. There are literally no Asians on these walls", he says as he points to other pictures on the walls. His post showed photos of him and his friend, posing next to the poster featuring their faces. Remember, folks: all races deserve recognition.

The stunt has since gone viral on Twitter, with more than 560,000 likes and 140,000 retweets to date. And I guess I did my part.

'Asian representation in media is not as prevalent as it should be, ' Maravilla said.

A McDonald's franchisee released a statement on the prank Tuesday, saying, "We take pride in highlighting diversity in every aspect of our restaurants".

The poster, which they conceptualized, made use of a photo they themselves took; they added a logo of the fast food chain to further make it look like one of the restaurant's authentic posters. It would be, like, a dream come true'.
