Rugby star Danny Cipriani fined for Jersey nightclub assault

The 30-year-old has been remanded in custody until a hearing on Thursday morning (10am).

The England worldwide fly-half, who completed a move from Wasps to Gloucester ahead of the upcoming season, was initially hit with five charges, including larceny, assault on police and being disorderly on licensed premises.

Announcing his arrest in a statement on Wednesday evening, his team said: 'Gloucester Rugby are aware of an incident involving Danny Cipriani in the early hours of Wednesday morning following an incident at a St Helier nightclub.

England rugby star Danny Cipriani has pleaded guilty at Jersey Magistrates' Court to charges of common assault and resisting arrest following an incident in a nightclub on the island.

The charges of assault of a police officer, larceny and disorderly behaviour have been dropped.

Gloucester chief executive Steve Vaughan said the club was "very disappointed" to be associated with such episodes.

"The incident in question was over in a matter of seconds and was a reaction to the conduct of other parties involved".

Russia's Putin, Germany's Merkel will discuss Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline
Merkel told Putin in May the pipeline should go ahead, but that Moscow has to commit to maintaining some gas transit via Ukraine. Germany's eastern European neighbours, nervous of Russian encroachment, have also raised concerns about the project.

Cipriani joined Gloucester from Wasps following the 2017-18 Premiership season.

"He knows his responsibilities and is aware of the impact of this type of incident on the club". However, Danny is a Gloucester player and will receive our full support as we focus on the exciting season ahead'.

Last week he vowed to "do everything I can" to remain in the England set-up after making his first Test match start in 10 years during the summer tour to South Africa.

He has played 16 times for England since his global debut in 2008.

He was in Jersey as part of the club's pre-season preparations.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
