Idris Elba tweets add fuel to Bond rumours

Fans have been calling for Elba to play Bond for years now, but it isn't looking promising at this point.

Idris Elba has reignited rumours that he could be set to take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig with a cryptic tweet that has sent fans into a frenzy. Most recently, director Antoine Fuqua revealed to the Daily Star that he's had discussions recently with EON Production's Barbara Broccoli, who said "it is time" for a black actor to tackle the iconic character.

Hilariously though, fans still managed to see Bond hints in an accompanying snap of group Public Enemy (whose members have included Flavor Flav - remember him from freaky Channel 5 reality show The Farm in 2005?), performers of the tune. Two round clocks can be called double 0.

"If you're the next Bond, it will be the first Bond film I ever see", said one Twitter user. Numb, but not entirely immune it would seem in light of today's message.

Idris Elba appears to have caught wind of the latest round of rumors that he might one day play James Bond, and he's having some fun with the buzz on social media.

Elba, 45, is best known for his work on the television dramas Luther and The Wire, as well as in the films Molly's Game, The Jungle Book, Thor, Pacific Rim, Zootopia and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

A number of online betting agencies are running odds on who will be next in line, with Elba the frontrunner.
