The products displayed in concept room are not for pickup but the customers can note down the details to purchase them in the market hall, which has extensive range of products including home kitchen utensils and accessories, textiles, rugs, lighting, decoration, stationary and even live plants.

The Indian IKEA restaurant seats 1000 people and has a menu of local dishes and adapted IKEA stables such as Swedish köttbullar med potatismos (meatballs and mashed potatoes).

As the sprawling store has come up in the heart of HITEC City, majority of the customers were techies from information technology companies. "We have a long-term commitment to India, which is an important market for us".

Besides retail, IKEA said it will also enter e-commerce segment in India by next year, besides exploring small format stores as part of its India expansion plans.

It materialized after painstaking research: teams visited 1,000 homes to understand Indians' needs, wants and preferences, the brand says.

The man behind IKEA picking Hyderabad for its India foray is Principal Secretary (Industries) at the time, Pradeep Chandra.
