Chase Elliott wins at Watkins Glen

Elliott, 62, will be the first member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame to compete in a race after being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Elliott held off a hard charge from defending NASCAR Cup series champion Martin Truex claim his maiden victory.

This first win for Elliott also marked the 250th career win for Hendrick Motorsports.

Truex closed within in a couple vehicle lengths of Elliott with 10 laps to go, but faded back in the final circuits. It was a two-car race as the rest of the field was more than 11 seconds back. When Truex bobbled in the chicane on the final lap, Elliott was home free. "I was able to get it done". I leaned on him a lot over this past offseason and I always lean on him, but certainly a lot throughout this off season just about the opportunities I've had in the past and not closing them out. "He did a good job of putting his auto exactly where it needed to be and not making a mistake". Yet another great track for Chase Elliott, could he go for two in a row, or will Kyle Larson finally find his way to victory lane?

His Joe Gibbs Racing teammates, Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez, rounded out the top-five. "I'm so thrilled, so emotional, so much relief, working on three years and I hadn't won one". "It's a huge deal".

Busch dominated until early in the second stage when, on Lap 27, he was passed by Elliott for the lead.

Midway through the segment, the Big 3 of Busch, Truex and Kevin Harvick were running in the top 10, but Elliott dominated in his No. 9 Chevy, beating Busch by 1.3 seconds. We were kind of standing around one day and offered it up, and he just wants to go have fun and race. The fuel probe malfunctioned on the ensuing pit stop and the crew only got a few gallons into the No. 18 Toyota. Busch had to immediately pit again, dropping him to 31st in the field. Cassill said. "He didn't steal one from a superspeedway, he didn't just have a dominate vehicle on an intermediate track". Stenhouse finished 16th, 12 spots ahead of Menard, and leads him by 10 points. It was Logano's third win in the series at The Glen and 30th overall, seventh on the career list. His last Xfinity Series race was in October 2005 at Memphis. He lasted less than three laps on Sunday after sliding off course and then heading to the garage with a broken radiator, his day done. His lone Xfinity Series victory came in the 1993 Fay's 150 at Watkins Glen International.
