Twin-engine plane crashes outside California mall, 5 killed

A twin-engine Cessna bound for John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, crashed into the parking lot of a Staples office supply store on Sunday, killing all five people aboard, Orange County fire officials said.

There were no other passengers in the plane, and nobody on the ground was hurt.

Passersby immediately gathered at the sidewalk taking photos of the scene as firefighters were attending to the incident. The plane hit an unoccupied, parked vehicle on the ground, but the owner was in a store at the time of the crash, Bommarito said.

Los Angeles reported the plane went down around 12:30 p.m. local time. Although a auto in the lot was damaged, authorities said Sunday evening there appeared to be no injuries on the ground.
