Apple officially reached a market capitalization of $1 trillion as it stock surged again Thursday, making it the first USA company to hit the massive valuation. Its incendiary rise to the top came to fruition on Thursday, when NY shares closed at an all-time high of $207.39.

We'll be monitoring Apple's stock price closely to see if it's able to really become the first trillion-dollar company.

Jobs, who died in 2011, was succeeded as chief executive by Tim Cook, who has doubled the company's profits but struggled to develop a new product to replicate the society-altering success of the iPhone, which has seen sales taper off in recent years.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon the Nasdaq's website showed Apple's value passing $1 trillion. "Given our confidence in Apple's future, we are very happy to announce that our Board has approved a new $100 billion share repurchase authorization and a 16 percent increase in our quarterly dividend", he added.
