Van driver who splashed pedestrians fired after backlash

Days later, Black & McDonald said one of its employees was no longer with the company, adding that this was an "isolated incident".

Black & McDonald, the firm he was working for and whose van he was driving, didn't waste any time in firing him, as they say in a statement to the official Facebook page.

He went on to say that the weight of the water flying at pedestrians could have led to injuries, which could warrant an assault charge.

If you just can't resist the urge to drive through a puddle to soak the poor souls on the sidewalk, it might not be wise to do so in a company van.

The dashcam video shows a Black and McDonald branded white van travelling down King Edward Avenue targeting unsuspecting pedestrians by splashing them with large amount of water from puddles on the road surface.

The Daily Telegraph reported that police in Ottawa were looking at the incident, saying they could charge the driver with a "mischief" charge.

In a video posted to YouTube, unsuspecting pedestrians get soaked by a white van that appears to swerve on goal to run through puddles and splash them. ". I would also like to thank a patrol Officer who assisted in this outcome".

A spokesman for Black & McDonald confirmed the firing. "We have been contacted by Ottawa police and are fully co-operating".

More than a million people have watched the original clip which was uploaded to YouTube by Saif Khan on Friday.

"Those people should sue. Shameful", wrote Steffen Wytenburg. "This is very unfortunate and we want to apologize to the public".
