Rudy Giuliani: Collusion is not a crime

MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace put the freakish spectacle of Rudy Giuliani's latest media blitz in context Monday, showing how convoluted and twisted President Donald Trump's defenses of his own actions with regard to Russian interference in the 2016 election have become.

But Giuliani's media blitz is all a show, said Republican strategist Rick Wilson, who once worked for the former New York City mayor.

"That's like your doctor going, 'I don't even know if that's a disease, bleeding from your eyeballs'".

Giuliani also reiterated in the Fox interview that the president is "absolutely innocent" and that recently released taped conversations between Trump and his former lawyer Michael Cohen from before the election prove that the president "didn't do anything wrong".

Acknowledging that Manafort's trial begins on Tuesday, Giuliani said, "Right, and he has no information incriminating of the president - I know that for a fact".

"Collusion is not a crime", he said. "He didn't pay them for hacking".

Manafort trial to shed light on Mueller probe evidence
Five of the witnesses, all financial professionals, were identified previously when they were granted immunity to testify. Rudy Giuliani, a lawyer for Trump, said no one facing trial should expect a pardon, but he did not rule one out.

Mr Giuliani said those who were allegedly present when Mr Trump learned about the meeting also deny he knew about it.

Harris Faulkner then asked Giuliani about the June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower involving Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, a Russian lawyer and others on potential "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.

He asserted his contention again in a tweet on Friday while taking a shot at Cohen's credibility. "Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam", he wrote about Cohen.

The Washington Post reported in July 2017 that some of Trump's lawyers were exploring ways to limit or undercut Mueller's probe.

The meeting has become a central focus of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into whether anyone within Trump's campaign colluded with Russia's meddling in the last United States presidential election.

Mueller's team has indicted or secured guilty pleas from 32 people and three companies, including the indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officials.
