Mother and 5 of her children die

A mother and her five children were killed in a motel fire in Michigan Saturday.

The fire began in a first-floor room of the two-story motel killing Kiarre Curtis, 26, and five of her children died in a room on the second floor.

Police are also investigating the apparent lack of working smoke detectors at the Cosmo Extended Living Motel on M-139 in Sodus Township.

Curtis' husband and a 1-year-old child survived. Five children, who police said were related to Samuel, were also killed: Marquise Thompson, 10; Gerome Randolph, 7; Samuel Curtis, 5; Savod Curtis, 4; and Avery Curtis, 2. Officials say all suffered fatal smoke inhalation.

Trump says he is willing to talk to Iran's leader without preconditions
Trump was responding to a question at a joint news conference at the White House with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. On Monday, Trump said he would meet with Iranian leaders to reach another deal.

The fire broke out at about 2 a.m. Saturday at the Cosmo Extended Stay in Berrien County in southwest MI. "Those babies being brought out lifeless, I mean the only time I seen a dead body was at a funeral but that was terrible, heartbreaking actually", resident Michael Powell said. "But he is doing the best he can at this point", said Boyce.

Officials said at least one other child was being treated at a local hospital, WBND-TV of South Bend, Ind., reported.

Preliminary estimates from the sheriff's office show that about 90 percent of the rooms at the motel sustained smoke, fire or water damage.

"As I woke up next to me my bed was on fire". "I said 'Oh my God.' I got my sheets and wet them and I tried to throw them on the bed and as I throw it on the bed it didn't work", he said. "As I throw salt on there I hurry and jump out and once I jump out the whole room explode flew".
