Indianapolis teen severely burned in internet prank gone wrong

Captivating the imaginations of teens is a new social media challenge known as the hot water challenge which has left one 15 year old IN boy seriously burned.

A fifteen-year-old in Indianapolis, Indiana, suffered painful injuries after his alleged friend poured scalding hot water on him while he slept as a part of the "hot water challenge".

Before the incident, Kyland and the pal looked up the social media craze on YouTube and made a decision to try the challenge, according to the news station. "I'm just blessed that he's still breathing". "Then, I went and looked in a mirror, and I had skin falling off...my face", he said. When the damage was done Kyland suffered second-degree burns on his back, chest and face and putting him in the hospital for a week.

Doctors with IU Health say they're starting to see more of these so-called internet challenges land people in the emergency room. He had to stay in the hospital for a week while undergoing treatment.

Clark became the latest Hot Water Challenge victim, with second-degree burns on his chest, back, and face.

Mother and 5 of her children die
Officials said at least one other child was being treated at a local hospital, WBND-TV of South Bend, Ind., reported . A mother and her five children were killed in a motel fire in Michigan Saturday.

Last summer, an 11-year-old girl in NY suffered face and chest burns after friends poured hot water on her.

"To see my baby, all burnt up like that, it was heart-breaking", she said.

In August 2017, an 8-year-old girl died after she allegedly drank boiling water through a straw on a dare, CBS News reported.

Dr. Ed Barkus told WXIN it's possible that people who do the challenge could end up with permanent disfigurement due to burns on the body or burns to the airway that could result in death.

Kyland's mom Andrea still can't shake the sight of her son's injuries. "When I came to my senses, the water got hot and I just got up and ripped my shirt off", Kyland said. "Don't take it overboard", Kyland said. However, doctors reportedly told Kyland that his skin will take several months to heal.
