Inmate broke window of moving patrol car, climbed on roof

A Texas inmate wriggled out of his handcuffs, broke the window of a patrol auto and climbed onto the roof of the vehicle as it drove down the highway, according to local authorities.

Two patrol cars were called as backup as Estrada's vehicle pulled over in an attempt to stop him making a getaway. The events were captured by a motorist on Highway 277 in Archer County.

Martin Gregory Estrada, 31, was being transported between facilities when he slipped from his handcuffs, shattered the passenger window, and climbed onto the roof of the vehicle.

News reports say the whole incident occurred while Estrada was being transferred from Wichita Falls to Abilene. According to officials, Estrada demanded that the deputy stop the vehicle, but the deputy continued driving and called for backup. The trip is roughly 150 miles (241 kilometers).

The outlet reported that more police officers assisted and showed up to support the first patrol vehicle's attempt to keep Estrada from fleeing.

According to authorities, Estrada was wanted in Abilene on charges of aggravated robbery, evading arrest and methamphetamine possession.
