
Trump faced fierce bipartisan criticism for saying at a summit Monday in Helsinki, Finland, with Russian President Vladimir Putin that he didn't see why it would be Russia that meddled in USA elections - before later claiming he meant to say he didn't see why it wouldn't be Russia.
Faced with yet another firestorm, the White House was later forced to undertake another course correction and on Thursday rejected the proposal in a public statement.
Press Secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted that Trump had asked Secretary of State John Bolton to invite Putin to Washington in the autumn.
"We didn't know whether she was an agent of a foreign power, but certainly had deep concerns over her activities", Schiff, the top Democrat on the intelligence committee, said of Butina, who's charged with conspiracy against the U.S.as an unregistered Russian agent.
"There are many answers, some easy and some hard, to these problems. but they can ALL be solved!"
On Monday, during a meeting with Putin in Helsinki, Finland, Trump said he accepted the Russian leader's denial of election meddling.
The White House is extending an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Washington in the fall, following up on his summit this week with President Trump. "Obviously, I wish he'd made a different statement".
"Hopefully President Putin will have the 12 identified Russians come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt", said Sanders.
Trump's appearance with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki received a strong backlash from across the political spectrum.

The idea for another summit with Putin comes as Congress struggles with a response to the first, and Thursday brought a flurry of actions as lawmakers tried to uncover details of what happened in Helsinki.
Contradicting his own intelligence agencies, he said there had been no reason for Russian Federation to meddle in the vote.
