Amesbury poisoning: Son of Dawn Sturgess wants death raised with Vladimir Putin

Metropolitan Police said Friday they had found a small bottle believed to be the source of the nerve agent that killed Dawn Sturgess and sickened Charlie Rowley.

Mr Rowley's condition continues to improve in hospital, but Ms Sturgess - a mother of three - died just over a week after being poisoned by the deadly nerve agent.

Ms Sturgess died, while Mr Rowley is seriously ill in hospital.

The incident came after former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, who have both since recovered, collapsed on a bench on March 4 in the nearby city of Salisbury, southwest England, sparking an worldwide diplomatic crisis after Britain blamed Russian Federation for the attack.

Police are trying to figure out whether the substance in the bottle - confirmed by scientists as Novichok - came from the same batch used in the attack against the Skripals. Rowley has regained consciousness.

Police are now testing to see if the Novichok in the bottle came from the same batch that was applied to the front door of Skripal's house in Salisbury.

Police said last week they had found traces of the nerve agent in a small bottle in the Amesbury home of Mr Rowley.

The UK has also invited experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to independently confirm the identity of the nerve agent.

More than 400 exhibits, samples and items have been recovered by officers so far and searches could last months.

Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, national lead for Counter Terrorism Policing in the United Kingdom, described the investigation process as "painstaking and vital work". "However, we can not guarantee that there isn't any more of the substance left", Basu said.

Detectives said they were still trying to find out where the bottle came from, and why it ended up in the house.

The poisoning of the father and daughter is being investigated as attempted murder.

That happened in Salisbury, only a few miles away from Amesbury.

Police said this was being done in close consultation with the hospital and the doctors.

"This is clearly a significant and positive development".

Britain and its allies blamed Russia for the attack in March on the Skripals, prompting the biggest Western expulsion of Russian diplomats since the Cold War.

Public health officials said the risk of exposure to the public is low, but advised people not to pick up any odd items.
