The United States, Mexico And Canada Will Host The 2026 World Cup

The Green Falcons earned their first World Cup berth since 2006 by going undefeated during AFC World Cup qualifying, but have stumbled through pre-tournament friendly action, going 3-1-5 including losses in their past three games to Italy, Peru, and Germany.

The winning bid, which should feature 60 out of 80 Games in the USA, will mark the return of football's showpiece event to North American soil for the first time since 1994.

Saudi Arabia, who returned to the World Cup for the first time since 2006, played some nice, tight football at times, but were never able to match the Russian hosts for energy or intent.

The 68th FIFA Congress will determine the site of the 2026 tournament, selecting from a joint North American bid submitted by Canada, the United States and Mexico, or a bid from Morocco. The U.S. team failed to qualify this year.

President Donald Trump supported the joint World Cup bid, though he also drew a rebuke from Federation Internationale de Football Association in April after he tweeted that "it would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the USA bid". Even if Trump wins re-election, his presidency would end before the 2026 World Cup.

North American officials have promised to deliver $14 billion in revenue from the event.

"But I think where it had the advantage was the World Cup would be more profitable in America and it is a capitalist world".

Although their World Cup record marks them out as one of the most consistent qualifiers from the Asian Football Confederation, the Saudis have not won a game at the finals since securing victories against Belgium and Morocco at US '94 and had failed to score in five of their last six games at the tournament before this fixture in Moscow.

Egor Titov, ex worldwide: "We must do well in the first two games not to let everything depend on the last one". Under the terms of the bid, Canada and Mexico will each host 10 matches.

While the 2026 decision feels like the behemoth commercial bid triumphing over the small country - and make no mistake this should be a very economically successful World Cup - it also signals to other countries that sometimes the best way forward is to reach across borders and come together.

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, arrived in Moscow on Thursday to attend the opening of World Cup 2018.

There is also a chance to send an eighth team via an inter-continental playoff.
